Roselle Dentist Invites Patients to Dental Implant Open House

Dr. Brainard G. Llanes, dentist in Roselle, announces that he will be hosting an informational dental implant open house in October.

For Roselle, Schaumburg, and surrounding area community members considering teeth replacement options, Dr. Brainard G. Llanes will be holding a dental implant open house at his Roselle dental practice on Wednesday, October 17th, 2012, from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM. During the open house, patients will have the opportunity to learn more about dental implants and have their questions answered about the procedure.

“I want to ensure that the residents in my community have all information they need to decide on the best possible treatment option for tooth replacement. Many people are interested in replacing their teeth with dental implants, but they want to know more about the procedure,” said Dr. Llanes, Roselle dentist. “This will be a good event to learn about the details, phases, and costs of different implant procedures.”

Dental implants are tooth root replacements that look, feel, and function like natural teeth. Dr. Llanes offers single and multiple dental implant options along with full mouth restoration.

While dentures may slip around the mouth and cause gum sores, dental implants are permanent and stable. Implants also allow patients to chew and speak as they would with their natural teeth.

“At my dental implant open house, patients will be able to learn how dental implants could restore their smiles and significantly improve their lives. Most people are pleasantly surprised at how affordable and easy the implant procedure is once they learn more about it,” said Dr. Llanes.

The Modern Essence Dentistry dental implant open house will take place on Wednesday, October 17th, 2012, from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM.  Complimentary consultations, X-rays, full examinations, and refreshments will be available at the event. Patients who are interested can call the office at (630) 582-0878 to register.

To stay updated about the dental implant open house, patients can visit Modern Essence Dentistry’s Facebook and Twitter at https://www.facebook.com/ModernEssenceDentistry andhttp://www.twitter.com/ModernEDental.

Schaumburg Dentist Lists 5 Common Dental Hygiene Mistakes People Make

In honor of National Oral Health Month, Dr. Brainard Llanes, dentist in Schaumburg, shares five common dental hygiene mistakes people make.

You may know that you should brush twice a day and floss daily, but do you do so in actuality? According to a 2008 survey sponsored by the American Dental Association, only 49% of Americans stated that they flossed and 10% stated that they never flossed at all. Not only does practicing proper dental hygiene daily prevent gum disease, cavities, and other dental complications that could be painful and expensive to fix in their advanced stages, it can actually lengthen your life! Dr. Mayo of the Mayo Clinic once said, “If a person can take care of their teeth and gums, they can extend their life by at least 10 years.” That is why it is imperative that people nip improper dental hygiene habits in the bud by avoiding common mistakes, according to Dr. Brainard Llanes of Modern Essence Dentistry.

What are the Most Common Dental Hygiene Mistakes?

1. Rushed brushing – A proper tooth brushing session is at least two minutes long. Any shorter than that, and people run the risk of not thoroughly brushing the back of the teeth. Additionally, shorter teeth brushing sessions can cause you to rush, brushing your teeth harder than you should. Brushing too hard can irritate the gums and cause them to bleed. You should be making short back-and-forth motions at a 45 degree angle when you clean your teeth.

2. Incorrect flossing – Just as it’s important not to brush too hard, it is equally important not to “snap” floss to your gums. Snapping floss can injure the gum and cause soreness. You should gently slide the floss between your teeth to get under the gums. To ensure you get to hard-to-reach areas, it is advised that you wrap floss around your middle fingers, not your index fingers, for better control.

3. High sugar and acid intake – A common problem for many people is the presence of cavities despite brushing and flossing properly and not smoking. While there is a genetic component to cavity vulnerability, foods containing large amounts of sugar and acid are also a big factor in tooth decay. Limiting sugar intake and chewing sugar-free gum after meals can help prevent tooth decay in people who are otherwise faithful to a good dental hygiene routine.

4. Smoking – A common staple on every dentist’s no-no list, smoking can seriously harm your gums and teeth (not to mention the rest of your body). Smoking can cause tooth decay, gum disease, receding gums, tooth loss, and oral cancer. Cosmetically speaking, smoking also stains teeth and promotes halitosis. If you wish to quit, talk to your dentist: he or she will be able to provide you with resources and/or possibly connect you to a general physician who can help you quit.

5. Not visiting the dentist regularly – Obtaining a dental cleaning every six months is crucial to your oral hygiene, as only dental practices have the tools necessary to remove hardened plaque buildup. Your dentist will also take the opportunity to examine your teeth and gums and make sure everything is in order. Catching dental problems early on will help you avoid more complicated and expensive procedures in the future.

By eliminating common dental hygiene mistakes, your oral health and overall health will significantly improve, and you may even extend your lifespan. If you have any questions or concerns about your dental hygiene habits, it is important that you communicate with your dentist.

Roselle, IL Dentist Shares 5 Ways for Parents to Make Every Dental Visit Fun

Dr. Brainard G. Llanes, Roselle dentist, shares exclusive advice on how parents can prepare children for dental appointments.

Many parents feel stressed about taking their young children to the dentist. The whirring drills, the sharp tools: this environment does not sound like a fun trip to the little ones. With several years of experience caring for children’s dental health, Dr. Llanes has listened to and answered many parents’ concerns regarding their children. To help parents, Dr. Llanes, Roselle dentist, is sharing an exclusive list of tips to make dental visits pleasant for the entire family.

How Parents Can Prepare Children for a Dental Appointment

1. Use child-friendly dental language – Dr. Llanes suggests being honest with children about dental procedures and tools, but using non-intimidating dental phrases. Instead of using terms such as “plaque” and “sealant,” it is recommended that parents use fun words like “sugar bugs” and “tooth paint.” Letting children joke around about how the yucky stuff will be washed out and teeth will be happy and healthy can help conquer their anxiety. Also, parents should avoid discussing dental fears or phobias around children; they shouldn’t think there is anything to be afraid of before their visit.

2. Show kids pictures of other children at the dentist – Studies have shown that young children relate better to pictures than to words. It is advised that parents show them a flyer from a child-friendly dental office or go online to find these images. Once children see pictures of other children smiling in a dental office, they will understand that going to the dentist can be a fun experience.

3. Ask the dentist to take the kids on an office tour – Before Dr. Llanes schedules an appointment with a new young patient, he invites both child and parents to look around his practice. An office tour familiarizes kids with dental tools and equipment and gives them a chance to ask questions. It also allows the child time to bond with the dentist before his or her first appointment. Kids will be able to see that there is nothing to be afraid of. Most child-friendly dental offices have a toy box, and children are welcome to play in the waiting room.

4. Make it a learning experience – The American Dental Association website has a special web page (http://www.ada.org/5578.aspx) where parents can print out educational activities for children, such as tooth anatomy charts, coloring pages, and crossword puzzles. Additionally, parents can demonstrate how to brush and floss in front of their children. Children look up to parents as a role model, so it is important that parents set a positive example of dental hygiene in front of them.

5. Role play with them so they know what to expect – Role playing a trip to the dentist works especially well with younger children. Parents can use a reclining chair as the dental chair and substitute cotton swabs for dental picks. For children who are especially anxious, Dr. Llanes recommends playfully running through a “pretend dental exam” in a familiar environment to prepare the child for his or her dental appointment.
